This brief required me to design a book cover for a book about Bauhaus.

I chose to go with the Piet Mondrian style as it is commonly associated with Bauhaus. I added the word 'Bauhaus' within the blocks and the colours as a way to give the viewer the challenge of finding the letters.

The parts of blocks that have no colours represent the letters of the word 'Bauhaus'

Before developing my final design, I tested out a few ways to have the word 'Bauhaus' written. First I started off by using lined to have the word written. I believe that this added empathy to the subject as the lines had sharp ends, similar to a square shape and the use of lines relate to the architectural aspect of Bauhaus.

With my next idea, I developed type that involved the use of red, blue and yellow alongside the use of rectangular shapes, some with rounded edges. I also tested this type along side the Bauhaus building.

Here, I have other ideas I looked at that use the Piet Mondrian style. Both of these, in comparison to my chosen design, incorporate the title within the shapes. These two ideas show the title visibly as opposed to my chosen one which has the viewer looking out for the title.
